KQ TV will allow passengers to watch live news and sports channels during flight. The launch of this new service takes cue from the decision by the airline to re-brand and revamp its cabin product in newly acquired B777-300ER and B787 aircraft.

“With the ongoing introduction of new aircraft, we aim to complement the flight experience with an innovative inflight entertainment system that will give our passengers live content while on board,” said Kenya Airways CEO Titus Naikuni.

Dr. Naikuni noted that the effort to improve the inflight entertainment system is, “consistent with Kenya Airways’ commitment to providing a world-class experience to its customers.”

In the past eight months, Kenya Airways has received two Boeing 777-300ER and one Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Five more Dreamliners and one 777-300ER are expected by the end of the year.

Kenya Airways is following a global trend of airlines providing passengers with live television and broadband internet access. For instance, Etihad Airways is showing live matches of the ongoing soccer World Cup thats taking place in Brazil.
