The aircraft’s 7,800 nautical mile (14,456 km) delivery flight from the United States took it over Canada, Greenland, the north Atlantic, Europe, the Mediterranean Sea, Egypt and Sudan.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was chief guest in celebrations to welcome Kenya Airways’ latest and most modern aircraft. He was accompanied by Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is on a visit to Kenya.

5Y-KZA is the first of nine 787s ordered by Kenya Airways in 2006. Five 787s will be delivered between June and October 2014, said Kenya Airways CEO Titus Naikuni in a statement today. The rest of the Dreamliners will be delivered in subsequent months.

Meanwhile, Kenya Airways will receive its second Boeing 777-300ER in May 2014. The first arrived in Kenya last October. The 777-300ER is the largest passenger aircraft in Kenya Airways’ fleet.
